The author of this study on the patois of Mauritius, himself a native of the island, and who has already produced books on its folklore, farces, narratives and tales, is better placed than any other to elucidate the origins, evolution of this Creole language. He surveys in the present study each part of speech in the order imposed by French grammar. He carefully points out new forms introduced into Creole and shows they were dispensed with.\
