From October 1818 to March 1820, Chateaubriand became a figurehead of sorts for Le Conservateur, an ultra-royalist weekly, contributing about fifty articles – commenting on day-to-day politics, offering electoral advice, acerbically criticizing the government and making use of his reputed constitutional expertise.
